Introduction to Lauren's World!

Hi again!

So a little about Lauren and my world… I am currently a senior at the University of Oklahoma and am majoring in Psychology with no minor; although I previously majored in Pre- Physical Therapy. I have really been interested in Abnormal Psychology as well as Clinical. Both classes have been very interesting because I love learning about mental, and physical disorders. My biggest accomplishment last year was getting a 4.0 in my last semester, which I want to continue doing for my final senior year semesters. Other than school, I love to travel. I travel outside of the state about 10 times, or more, a year to go to music festivals and to camp. Camping has been a hobby of mine since I was a child, My family used to always take me and my brother to Colorado, or New Mexico to set up camp. Colorado has my heart and is a place I go to visit multiple times a year as well; and will be returning this upcoming weekend! Morrison, Colorado is where we go the most because of the spectacular music venue it has. Besides Morrison, Telluride would have to be my next favorite place in Colorado to go and visit. I have only been there twice, but will go whenever my time, and money allows!

Colorado has changed my life in many ways and continues to do so. The people, the vibe, the views, the music, the art, and the food are only a few of the reasons I enjoy going to this beautiful state. I plan to move to Colorado once I graduate from OU, and try to get into a Speech Pathology program in Boulder. If Speech Pathology does not work out for me then I will continue to pursue my other dream of becoming a counselor for children struggling with addiction. I am very excited to see what my future holds for my life in Colorado!

  1. Wow, we actually have a lot in common. I am also a psychology major and am also majoring in Occupational Therapy…similar to your previous major of PT. I took abnormal psych last semester and it was one of my favorite psych classes so far. Next semester I am applying to OT school, but am also going to apply to speech path school here at OU. My family and I travel to Colorado every few years and it has always treated me well. I wish you luck in this coming semester and in applying to speech path school!!

  2. I'm a Psych and OT major! I'm hoping to get into the graduate program here at OU. I actually have only been to Colorado a handful of times and only to ski. I am so terrible at it so that's why I don't go often. I know New Mexico has like this hot air balloon festival which I would love to see, have you ever been?

  3. How great that you have a destination in mind for the next adventure in your life, Lauren! My cousin lives in Boulder, and I've been a few times to visit: it is so beautiful there. Maybe for this class you would like to learn something about the Native peoples of that part of the country; there's an Apache unit that comes up in class later, and you can find stories from other tribes like the Utes and Pawnee and others in the Native American section of the Freebookapalooza book library online; you'll be browsing that later, so you might want to take a look and see what you find that interests you: Freebookapalooza: Native America ... so many great stories often inspired by the beautiful landscape itself!

  5. Hi Lauren!
That is awesome that you got a 4.0 last semester!! I hope I get a 4.0 this semester just so I can go out with a bang. I love to travel too! I am planning on going out of the country soon, maybe this spring semester or summer. It is funny that you bring up traveling in Colorado because I love it there!! I have family up there and visit them at least three times each year. I could definitely see myself living in Colorado too. I am eager to see more pictures from your travels.

  6. I love that you are so interested in Colorado. i was born in Denver, although most of my life has been spent in Moore, OK. Your 4.0 is awesome! That shows a lot of hard work and dedication to your school. I wish I had been half as dedicated when I first started college because then I might have actually graduated on time. I appreciate your love of travel because I love it myself. I have been to almost all fifty states and plan to continue in my quest to see them all, along with some international traveling. Your dream of working with children is a great goal. I have worked with children in many different settings and find there is nothing more rewarding than helping a child. Good Luck!

  7. Congratulation on your accomplishment in last semester! I bet you are very excited for your senior year. As a senior myself, I cannot wait for my graduation. It’s great to know that you already have great plan after graduation like moving to Colorado and choosing your career. I know that there many children suffer from different addiction, and they need someone like you to help them out.

  8. Lauren, so happy you got a 4.0 last semester! I got my first 4.0 of college last semester too. Isn't it the best feeling? College is hard, so it definitely helps you feel good about your abilities. I love your passion for Colorado and that you know what you want out of post-grad life. A lot of people don't really know what they want to do, so use your decisiveness to your advantage. Good luck in your senior year and your life in Colorado!

  9. Hi Lauren,
I am a senior as well. I’ve never looked into Abnormal psychology but it sounds really interesting. I think it would great to help people and your other option is great as well. Helping children with addiction will be kind of hard but really rewarding at the same time! I also love traveling. I love visiting new places and seeing different parts of the world. I have never been to a music festival before but I bet it would be really fun. I do plan on going to one though. Good luck on your senior year!

  11. Hi, Lauren!

It’s awesome that you not only have your career planned out, but you have a back-up plan as well. All I’m hoping for at this time is finishing my college career and getting a job somewhere.

It’s amazing how you got a 4.0 last semester! Yay for you! I’ve managed to get a little over a 3.5, which is good for me. Once you’ve accomplished a 4.0, you know what it takes. And if you continue and progress, you’ll get them again for sure. Good luck with getting a 4.0 for this semester and the next!

  12. Hi Lauren!
Congratulations on making it to your final year!! I am also interested in psychologically! It is so fascinating and interesting! After graduation, I am pursuing a career to become a licensed drug and alcohol counselor, so I think it's really cool you also want to be a counselor for teens struggling with addiction if your speech path doesn't work out!
I absolutely love colorado!! I basically lived there last summer and never wanted to leave. I haven't been to Tulleride but I have been to Colorado Springs, Denver, Vail, Boulder, and Manitou Springs! Manitou Springs is by far my favorite place to go in colorado!
I wish you all the luck!!!!

  13. Hey Lauren, I think that it is awesome that you get to travel so much! I love camping as well, even though when I go with my parents we stay in a RV. Colorado is always beautiful! Congratulations on getting a 4.0 last semester! I try to keep my grades up, but with my class schedule I haven’t been able to keep a 4.0. Good luck with the rest of this semester and next semester in keeping your 4.0!

  14. Hey Lauren,

Congrats on the good grades! It's not always easy to keep grades up with so much going on, so props to you. Also, I recently visited Colorado Springs and I have to agree with you: the place is great! So many nice people and the culture is very relaxed, not to mention all the outdoorsy things to do!

I really admire you goals too! Addiction is a tough, terrible thing, and it's good to see there are people who want to help.

  15. Hey Lauren!
I think it's cool that you are interested in abnormal psychology; that is a very specific field that needs people who are intelligent and whom possess empathetic hearts, so I am proud of your dedication! I'm jealous that you already know what you want to do and where you want to go! Colorado is beautiful!
